#4 - Trapped by Feelings

Hi again! Theo here with our weekly wisdom from Heroic.

I first want to thank everyone for continuing to share how you are STILL hitting your targets from our workshop!! That’s like you! Keep going! 💪🔥🔥

I also want to thank everyone who has shared with me the impact Heroic training has had on the soccer boys within school.

Thank you to all! Let’s all keep the fire going!

This week I struggled deciding what wisdom to share. Not because I didn’t have anything…but because there is SO much to share. I decided to continue to focus on the power of identity and how feelings sometimes get in our way. I just happened to read a Philosopher Note on Constructive Living by David Reynolds (access it here for more), and it fit right into our wisdom from last week.

In the book, David tells us that we can’t change our feelings BUT we can influence feelings by our behaviors…aka actions.

We know how important identity is from last week, but if you are like me…and every other human ever…sometimes we just don’t FEEL like doing something.

I don’t feel like getting up to exercise every morning, yet I do. And I most certainly FEEL better afterwards.

Always.

As another example, if you want to be a Professional Musician (ID), yet you only practice (action) when you feel like it, will you ever become a professional?? Perhaps.

But if you hit your target of practicing Every. Single. Day. no matter how you feel. Will you become a professional? Much more likely…the odds will be in your favor.

Reminds me of the Dale Carnegie quote… “Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit at home and think of it. Go out and get busy.”

The same goes with feelings. We have to “get busy” and our feelings will follow.

So remember Identity, Behavior, and then Feeling. In that order.

Talk soon!
